A Personal Note
Every family has stories that deserve to be remembered. Mine just happened to begin with Sonny and Teresa.
I hoped readers would come to know my grandparents.
But more than that, I hoped they would recognize someone from their own family.
A grandfather whose stories were never fully told.
A grandmother whose quiet traditions shaped generations.
A photograph tucked inside a drawer.
An ordinary life that turned out to be extraordinary.
If that happens, Sonny and Teresa becomes more than my family’s story.
It has become an invitation.
When I sign a copy of the book, I almost always write the same words: Welcome to the family.
Not because we’re related.
But because, somewhere in Sonny and Teresa’s story, I hope you find a little of your own.
